Annual Twin County United Way Golf Invitational Raised More than $12,000 to Support Local Kindergarten Readiness Efforts

For the first time in tournamentÂ’s 11 years, golfer hits a hole-in-one

LEWISTON – Golfers enjoyed a day on the course while supporting a great cause at the 11th Annual Twin County United Way Golf Invitational presented by Clearwater River Casino.  Proceeds, which exceeded $12,000, benefit the United Way’s kindergarten readiness efforts.

Bryden Canyon Golf Course was host to 23 teams of golfers who participated in the four-person scramble event which kicked off with a shotgun start at noon on Friday, June 16.  The tournament is open to all levels of play from beginners to a 56, which is what the top team scored.  Golfers of the winning foursome included Brian King, Shawn Nilsson, Mike MacDowell and Scott Baldwin.

A highlight of the tournament was a hole-in-one hit by golfer Brian King on Hole 4, a par three.  King won a 50 inch 4K Ultra HD Smart TV from Stonebraker McQuary Insurance. No one walked away with an eight-day Hawaiian vacation hole-in-one prize that was up for grabs on Hole 13. Other winning golfers for the day included closest to the hole winners on the front and back nine, Brian King and Nate VonLindern respectively, longest drive winner Andy Haseneohrl, and longest putt, Dan Stellmon.  Mike MacDowell was the drawing winner of a JimmyStyx paddle board donated by Vista Outdoors.

“This is always a fun day on the course and our biggest fundraiser for our Kindergarten Boot Camps,” said Tim Barker, chair for this year’s event. Twin County United Way’s Kindergarten Boot Camp is a summertime program which helps prepare children for kindergarten in the fall. Research shows that nearly half of the children in Idaho entering kindergarten are unprepared to start school. The Kindergarten Boot Camp provides four- and five-year-old children with an inside look of what school will be like and teaches essential skills needed to be ready to enter kindergarten in the fall and be successful in school.

“We appreciate the support from the community” continued Barker, “from all the volunteers who started at 8 a.m. to the amazing after-tournament dinner fully hosted by Red Lion Hotel, it’s a team effort that makes the tournament a successful fundraiser and makes golfers want to come back each year.”  Additional sponsors included P1FCU, St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Inland Cellular, Washington Trust Bank, Pepsi and hole sponsors.

Next year’s tournament is scheduled for Friday before Father’s Day, June 15, 2018.  To sponsor or play in next year’s tournament, contact the Twin County United Way office at (208) 743-6594.
