Twin County United Way’s Annual Day of Caring Continues to Grow

More than 330 volunteers are at the ready to serve on May 12

LEWIS-CLARK VALLEY – Many hands make light work.  So just how much work can the hands of 330 volunteers do?  The Twin County United Way hopes it’s a lot. Twenty-one nonprofits have submitted more than 30 projects that need completed during the United Way’s annual Day of Caring taking place today.

Volunteers will be in action across the community on a variety of projects from litter clean up to skilled labor activities. Day of Caring Chair, Kim Casey, shared that “most of the nonprofits in our community are small. So, when the lawn needs mowed, the windows need washed or the building needs painted, these tasks either need to be contracted out – paid for with a budget stretched thin – or done by staff with time already stretched thin. We know that volunteers can do this and want to do this so that the nonprofit staff can devote their time to important program work.”  Casey added, “We encourage people to ask questions and learn more about the nonprofit they are helping.” Day of Caring is a few hours of service that connects people in the community to our nonprofits and is intended to promote volunteerism and nonprofit engagement throughout the year.

The community-wide event, presented by Regence BlueShield of Idaho, shows what can be accomplished when many are working together to make the community better. Regence president, Scott Kreiling, shared, “we’ve been supporting this volunteer event for a number of years.  Our employees want to give back where they live and work and we appreciate that whenever we partner with the United Way, we know that we are helping many worthy nonprofits in our area.” Regence, and team sponsors P1FCU and Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories, along with in-kind donations from ArtBeat, Fazzari’s and IdaVend, underwrite the event.

Photos and videos of the dayÂ’s activities will be shared throughout the day by Twin County United Way and volunteer teams via social media including Facebook.com/TwinCountyUW, Twitter @TwinCountyUW, and Instagram TCUW, hashtags #TCUW and #LiveUnited.
