ALICE

ALICE is a United Way acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed.  ALICE refers to households that make more than the federal poverty level, but struggle to afford basic household necessities.  The ALICE study, released by the United Ways of the Pacific Northwest, is a study intended to measure the true scale of financial hardship and describes what poverty and financial constrained households look like in each county.

In 2013, in Idaho 15 percent of households lived in poverty, and another 22 percent were ALICE. In Nez Perce County 11 percent lived in poverty, and another 22 percent were ALICE.

\In Washington, 13 percent lived in poverty and another 19 percent were ALICE. In Asotin County, 14 percent lived in poverty, and another 23 percent were ALICE.
