400 at the Ready for Twin County United Way’s Annual Day of Caring

A record number have signed up for volunteer service on May 12

LEWIS-CLARK VALLEY –The Twin County United Way’s 22nd Annual Day of Caring is taking place today. And, it is bigger than ever.  More than 400 volunteers will gather at the Community Center in Lewiston at 8 a.m. and then disperse across the community for a half-day of volunteer service.

The community-wide event, presented by Regence BlueShield of Idaho, shows what can be accomplished in just a short time when so many are working together. “It is a few hours of service for each participant,” said Day of Caring Chair, Kim Casey, “but it equates to 1,200 hours of service – all before noon.” Casey continued, “today is a demonstration of the power of living united and is intended to encourage volunteerism throughout the year.”

Regence president, Scott Kreiling, who is serving with more than 90 volunteers from Regence, shared, “this is one of our favorite events each year.  Our employees want to give back where they live and work and this gives us the opportunity to see different ways we can help our local nonprofits and the entire community.” More than 35 projects, including a couple skilled construction projects, will be completed today.  Volunteers will be participating in a wide range of tasks including designing posters, painting bowls, painting walls, installing handrails and adding other safety modifications, yard work, organizing, cleaning, power washing buildings, repacking food, carpentry and more.

New this year, Day of Caring volunteers – and others from the community – can also donate blood at the Inland Northwest Blood Center at 1213 21st Street in Lewiston.

Support from Regence and P1FCU, along with in-kind donations from ArtBeat, Fazzari’s and IdaVend Broadcasting, underwrite the costs of the event.

Photos and videos of the day’s activities will be shared throughout the day by Twin County United Way and volunteer teams via social media including Facebook.com/TwinCountyUW, Facebook.com/RegenceBlueShieldofIdaho, @TwinCountyUW, @RegenceIdaho, Instagram TCUW, #TCUW #LiveUnited #UnitedWeWin.
